El concierto en homenaje a Freddie Mercury tuvo lugar el 20 de abril de 1992 en Londres, en el Estadio de Wembley, y fue televisado a todo el mundo. La recaudación se destinó a la investigación del SIDA, lanzando así el The Mercury Phoenix Trust. "Freddie fue una estrella extraordinaria que cruzó rápidamente nuestro paisaje cultural como un cometa iluminando el firmamento y como otros en el mundo que han perdido a causa del SIDA, murió antes de su hora". Con estas palabras de la actriz Liz Taylor (presidenta de la fundación norteamericana para la investigación sobre el SIDA) comenzó el conmovedor homenaje al llorado cantante que murió el 24 de noviembre de 1991. Fue el acontecimiento musical más importante desde que en 1985 Bob Geldof utilizara el mismo escenario para luchar contra el hambre en África con su Live Aid.
