Julia es una joven enfermera que vive en un decadente pueblo de los Estados Unidos, en el que, inexplicablemente, han desaparecido varios niños en muy poco tiempo. Los más supersticiosos atribuyen las desapariciones al Hombre Alto: un oscuro personaje que, según la tradición, se lleva a los niños.
