Sinopsis
Tom Baker (Steve Martin) y su mujer Kate (Bonnie Hunt), esperando reunir a su familia en unas memorables vacaciones de verano, llevan a sus doce hijos al lago Winnetka, en Wisconsin, que ha sido el lugar en el que siempre han pasado sus vacaciones. Pero su paz y sosiego pronto saltan por los aires cuando han de vérselas en una contienda con los hipercompetitivos miembros de otra gran estirpe de la que Jimmy Murtaugh (Eugene Levy), viejo rival de Tom y padre de ocho hijos, es el cabeza de familia.
